Every year at Baselworld, there are a few watch replica watches
Every year at Baselworld, there are a few watch releases that really steal the show. This, I believe, will be one of them. Breitling is going through a lot of changes under the leadership of Georges Kern, their new CEO, and has focused a lot on returning to the brand's roots with its designs and catalog. Continuing on that trend, Breitling announced the ref. Navitimer. 806 Re-Edition from 1959, almost an exact reproduction of his iconic pilot's watch (yes, I'm using that word) that was released 60 years ago, limited to 1959 pieces.
Originally released in 1952, the Breitling Navitimer became popular with pilots around the world thanks to its chronograph functionality and slide bezel, providing a useful tool before replica watches electronic instruments took over every cockpit. The Navitimer has long been a staple in the Breitling collection, but over the years it has definitely moved away from its original design roots, with changes in size, logo and decoration involved in its evolution.
This 1959 reissue is almost identical to the Navitimer on which it is based, with a stainless steel case with a diameter of 40.9mm and a thickness of 13.43mm. The movement that flows inside is Breitling's Caliber B09, a manually wound column wheel, vertical friction chronograph movement with nearly 70 hours of power reserve, beating at 28,800 Vph. The dial is predominantly black, with faux patinated lume on the numbers and hands - a color mirrored by the sliding bezel the Navitimer is known for. Keeping with its vintage inspiration, the 1959 also features an acrylic crystal. As for strap options, the 1959 features a vintage black leather strap. And in case you need it, the case is water resistant up to 3 bar.
In 2018, Breitling brought us the Navitimer 8 collection, one of the first major releases under Kern. This line was designed to go back to Breitling's glory days and bring back much of the past design language that so many Breitling collectors loved. Now, we have this 1959 reissue, which, in my opinion, is the fake rolex most beautiful Navitimer we've seen from Breitling in a long time. All of this works for me: the design is fantastic, the case size is spot on and it's powered by a reliable Breitling chronograph movement. Breitling appears to be on track for the past couple of years, and I hope we continue to see it develop this classic design language and hopefully go as far as introducing more smaller Navitimers to the collection.
